Committee Member
Elly Babbedge

Elly put in time and effort when starting up the shop and newspaper deliveries and then worked as a volunteer in the shop for some time. Other things in her life then took her time became just a regular customer, grateful to have access to such a good range of products.
Now that we are facing the new challenge of trying to purchase the Methodist Chapel, she has rejoined the committee to see the next development through.
She believes that there is a need for a local café and meeting hub alongside
the shop– perhaps modelled on the Sylvania Community shop/cafe in Exeter where there are many little groups having coffee and chatting, playing scrabble, knitting, researching, and a few individuals sitting with laptops and a pastries.
As a home-worker she would really make use of this from time to time. She can also see a dementia corner, a local history display, a story-telling area and the village book shed currently in The Hayes, all incorporated into a warm and welcoming refurbished building.
